HOW TO FILL A FOUNTAIN PEN:
Xezo fountain pens are very flexible as they have a convertible system for filling with either bottled ink or an ink cartridge. Many people prefer the convenience of an ink cartridge while others enjoy the ritual of filling their pens from the glass bottles of richly colored ink. That's why Xezo offers two options for refilling a fountain pen.
Ink Cartridges
One ink cartridge has been included in this writing set. The cartridge should only be replaced when ink supply has been depleted. Unscrew the barrel of the fountain pen and remove the empty cartridge. Insert the narrower end of the new cartridge into the back of the section block with enough pressure to create a snug fit. The pin inside the section block will puncture the seal of the cartridge, allowing ink to flow into the section block. Screw the barrel on over the cartridge into the section block.

Bottle Ink
Unscrew the barrel of the fountain pen and remove the empty cartridge (if present). Insert the end of the enclosed converter with the open ring into the back of the section block with enough pressure to create a snug fit. Twist the black knob end of the converter to send the piston down to the end inserted into the section block. Nib Section Converter Dip the nib of the fountain pen into the bottled ink so that the nib is submerged up to the section block. Twist the black knob end the opposite direction to draw ink up into the converter. Remove the nib from the bottled ink and twist the black knob end a little to force out a couple of drops of ink back into the bottle. Twist the knob end again in the opposite direction to draw a little air into the converter. Screw the barrel on over the converter into the section block.

 

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR MAINTAINING AND STORING YOUR FOUNTAIN PEN

Do not attempt to remove or alter the nib or feed as this has been adjusted by a skilled craftsman. If the flow of ink is not exactly as desired, send the pen to an authorized Xezo dealer for adjustment or nib exchange. Store your fountain pen upright, with nib pointing up, in a pocket, purse, or pen cup. This will help drain the ink into the barrel and refill, while avoiding draying or clogging of the nib. If your fountain pen will not be used for an extended period of time, remove the ink cartridge (or converter) and nib section to prevent clogging and ink evaporation. The nib of a fountain pen will mold and conform to the individual's writing style and should not be used by others. Clean the fountain pen between refills of a different color. This will avoid blending the ink colors. A converter that is not being used for ink can be used to flush the nib and section block. Simply draw cool water up through the nib, force the water out, repeating this several times. Dry the nib and section block with a cleaning cloth. If your fountain pen becomes clogged, soak the nib in cold water for up to 24 hours. Follow the cleaning instruction listed below.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FOUNTAIN PEN

A fountain pen needs to be cleaned twice a year. To do so, simply remove the ink cartridge or converter and flush the nib and section block with cool water. Dry the nib and section block with the enclosed cleaning cloth. DO NOT use hot water or solvents as this will damage the finish and/or mechanism. If  the inside of the cap becomes soiled with ink, wrap a piece of dampened tissue or thin cloth around a match stick to remove the ink.
